Green Space Dream: The Lutheran Foundation donates historic park to Boys & Girls Club, expanding green space for Fort Wayne Youth
The Lutheran Foundation’s office at 3024 Fairfield is only a few blocks from the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne’s headquarters at 2323 Fairfield. Now the two organizations are even closer, thanks to the foundation’s donation of its 14-acre park on the site of the original Lutheran Hospital to the club, which operates four local clubs that provide a variety of services to about 700 high-need youths between the ages of six and 18 every day. OPINION: Taxing times: Churches and property exemptions
The spring deadline for paying Allen County property taxes was May 12, with the fall installment due Nov. 10. That would not normally be front-page news in a publication that serves members of Lutheran congregations, but the reality is that some churches and other not-for-profit organizations have joined the ranks of taxpayers - and more may unwittingly do likewise when leasing their buildings unless they learn how to protect themselves and their tax-exempt status. LSUS relocated due to plumbing failure
A recent near-catastrophic water and sewage leak forced Lutheran South Unity School (LSUS) to relocate its 185 students to the former Bethlehem Lutheran School facility on S. Anthony Blvd. Internal leaks caused the school to close for two days on May 7–8. Classes resumed at the Bethlehem location and continued there through the end of the school year on May 23. FULL STORY
Concordia alumni and faculty lead at LCMS Youth Gathering
The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod is holding its National Youth Gathering, titled Endure, from July 19–23 in New Orleans, La. At least three of those who are involved with this year’s conference have deep ties to Fort Wayne and Concordia Lutheran High School. FULL STORY
